Frequently asked.
How long does it take to get a private pilot license?
Most students at The Pilot Port complete PPL in 4–9 months flying twice a week. The FAA minimum is 40 hours; the average across U.S. flight schools is closer to 60–75. Concentrated training (4+ flights a week) can finish in 2–3 months.
How much does PPL cost at The Pilot Port?
Block pricing depends on hours flown, instructor time, ground school, examiner fees, and books. Real-world private pilot training in South Florida typically lands in the $14,000–$22,000 range, with significant variance based on student progression. We publish current block rates on request — email fly@thepilotport.com.
Do I need a college degree to be a pilot?
No. The PPL has no college requirement. Many professional pilots have a degree because regional and major airlines look for one, but it is not a flight training prerequisite.
What aircraft will I train on?
The Cirrus SR20. Glass panel (Garmin Perspective+), CAPS whole-airframe parachute, fixed-gear, four-seat. The same aircraft you'll fly through your instrument rating and beyond.
