Frequently asked

Common questions.

What aircraft does TPP train on?
The Cirrus SR20. Every TPP student trains on the SR20 from zero hours through Commercial, CFI, and CFII. One airframe, one cockpit, one set of systems on every flight.
What kind of fleet does The Pilot Port operate?
A Cirrus SR20 fleet for primary training at KFXE, plus managed and dry-leased aircraft on the Aviation Solutions side. The training fleet is TPP-controlled; owner-managed aircraft are operated under client-specific agreements and stay confidential per engagement.
Is the Cirrus SR20 a good training aircraft?
Yes. Modern four-seat trainer with a glass panel, fixed gear, and a whole-airframe parachute. Handling is similar to the SR22 and to most technically advanced aircraft students will fly later, which shortens the transition into faster equipment.
What is CAPS?
CAPS is the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System, a ballistic parachute that lowers the entire airplane under canopy. It is a safety system Cirrus pilots train to deploy in specific emergency scenarios (engine failure over unlandable terrain, loss of control, structural failure) when continued flight is no longer the better option.
What avionics are in the SR20?
Garmin Perspective+, the Cirrus-specific Garmin glass cockpit. Primary flight display, multi-function display, integrated autopilot, and GPS/WAAS navigation.
Does TPP manage other aircraft beyond the training fleet?
Yes. The Aviation Solutions side runs fleet management, dry leases, charter pilot services, refurbishment, and maintenance coordination for owner clients. Aircraft type, tail numbers, and owner identity are confidential to each engagement.
Can I dry lease an aircraft through TPP?
Dry-lease availability and structure are scoped per client under FAR §91.23. We draft the lease, handle the FAA Oklahoma City filing, and notify the FSDO before first flight. Email fly@thepilotport.com to discuss.
